CETEC’s celebration of 21 years of business

On the 28th October, CETEC celebrated 21 years of business with a range of our clients, valued supporters and industry experts.  The event was held at a magical location, overlooking Sydney Harbour from the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

As well as a celebration of 21 years of business and a networking opportunity for all present, invited speakers provided a range of insights to sustainability into the future.

Adam Garnys, Senior Consultant and Sydney Manager of CETEC introduced the CETEC staff present at the event and also introduced all the speakers, including Dr Vyt Garnys, Managing Director, who also spoke on Productive Sustainability and provided some insights into lessons learnt from the October 1987 financial crash (CETEC's birthday) and opportunities arising.

The invited speakers included:

Roger Walker, Head of Sustainability at Napier & Blakeley (consultants in property development and infrastructure) provided a number of hints to improve our productivity in facility environment, including lighting efficiency gains that are achievable now. He also provided some insights on his views on carbon reduction and  possibly the next major sustainability issue, the world's oceans.

Roger Walker of Napier & Blakeley           Clive Chandler of McLachlan Lister

Clive Chandler, Director of McLachlan Lister (Project and Strategy Advisers) gave the audience humorous and thought-provoking mock answers to some sustainability exam questions that might be posed to current HSC students. A key theme raised was that we should not rely on the government to drive sustainability, but that rather it was up to the individuals in the industry to drive the required progress.

Professor Barbara Messerle, Head of School of Chemistry at UNSW provided a briefing of the areas of research at the School of Chemistry that will improve our future sustainability including hydrogen storage in molecular sponges, photocatalysis and the development of new catalytic processes for ammonia production.

Prof. Barbara Messerle, UNSWHon Man Yau, research student, UNSW

Hon Man Yau, a post-graduate student at UNSW, won the 2007 Meritorious performance in Honours Thesis prize, one of CETEC's inaugural prizes at UNSW.  Hon Man spoke from his Research Chemist's perspective on Turning Ideas into Working Solutions under the theme of Productive Sustainability.

The team at CETEC would like to give a big thank you to all the eminent speakers for their time and effort and contribution to the event.
