Welcome to this early Spring Edition of RiskeNews
In early August, Dr Vyt Garnys of CETEC presented at the Leading Green Thinkers Forum in Perth on Emerging green building trends and technologies in Europe following his trade mission visit to Germany with the Green Building Council of Australia. The evening was a great success and interest to attendees and will be repeated later in the year in Sydney.

The team at CETEC would like to invite, and in particular our Brisbane-based readers, to CETEC's Materials and Healthy Environment Seminar to be held on 26th October. More details below.

Materials and Healthy Environment Seminar

This free seminar to be held at Rydges, South Bank, Brisbane on 26th October (1-3PM) specifically targeted for material suppliers and in particular flooring manufacturers and providers will give you the facts, plus valuable insight relating to compliance requirements for material emissions and the management of Indoor Environment Quality.

What's that Smell?

You are probably familiar with the “new” car smell or the “new or renovated” building odour. This situation arises due to the release of chemicals (emissions) from various materials. Less commonly considered are the effects of chemical emissions from everyday products, despite the increased likelihood of contact. We list some emission event examples and explain how to assess, identify and remediate or reduce the emissions.

Health Impacts of Modern Materials
A World Health Organization (WHO, 1984) report suggested up to 30% of new and remodelled buildings worldwide may be linked to symptoms of sick building syndrome. Learn more about the types of building materials that emit VOCs, the health impacts and what you can do about it.
