2004 - Year of the built environment
2004 has been proclaimed the Year of the Built Environment (YBE) across Australia.   It will be a collaborative celebration by government, industry, environmental and community groups to raise awareness in the Australian community about the built environment.

> >  Occupational Health Risk
Managing outrage
When people are angry or frightened, they often overreact to risks that are small or even trivial in technical terms.  The level of outrage is dependent on the level of understanding by the individual of the consequence of the risk event occurring. Communication is the key.

> >  Property Risk
Corrosion and successful building operation
Good building management requires a "predictive maintenance" approach to corrosion. The benefits of non-destructive testing have been established in many commercial and industrial situations.

> >  Material, Product & Process Risk
Synchrotron used to enlighten problems and reduce risk
The synchrotron high intensity light source brings remarkable improvement in technical problem solving.  The Australian synchrotron facility is due for completion in 2007.
