CETEC and Productive Sustainability

This talk was presented by Dr Vyt Garnys, Managing Director of CETEC at a celebration of 21 years of business held 28th October, 2008 in the theme of 1987-2008 - from Sustainable Productivity to Productive Sustainability.

I am thrilled to welcome you to our 21st birthday celebrations  - 1987-2008.  We have selected a theme of Productive Sustainability for this event.

A 21st is a time of celebration and reflection of the passage from youth to maturity and responsibility.  A time when the foundations of our own past history will be relied upon to build our adult future. A time when the world will expect a return on its investment in us.

The 21st key symbolizes leaving the parental house and entering independently, the city gates to become a functioning member of the greater society.  I believe that the 21st key is for entering into society as a productive member and to contribute to its sustainability.

Productivity is needed to nurture and not deplete our society, whilst Sustainability is to maintain the resources and ecology needed to ensure future survival.  Hence, Productivity and Sustainability are partners in the tango dance of survival and growth.

As a child needs sustainable productivity to develop learning and play, an adult needs productive sustainability to protect the world for the child's future.  The same is needed for societies and companies.  Both CETEC and our Foray Laboratories have prospered since 1987, the sustainable productivity pre-adult phase.

We have willingly entered into the adult phase of productive sustainability by giving skills, knowledge and resources to society through participation in active roles in committees for NATA,  Standards Australia, Facility Management Association of Australia, Green Building Council of Australia, University of NSW and the City of Monash, plus memberships of AIMM, RACI, ACA, AIRAH and ISIAQ. CETEC has also supported the community and scientific achievement through awarding prizes to primary and tertiary students and to companies.
