Dr Vyt Garnys, Managing Director of Cetec, as a member of The Indoor Ecology Community Of Practice for the Facilities Management Association of Australia, contributed to the keynote address at the Ideaction 2004, FMA conference , 12-14 May 2004 in Brisbane.

Steve Gladwin, the National Chair, indicated that the theme aimed to challenge the role of the FM profession in shaping the future community in a corporate global context.

Dr Jack Bacon, USA. reviewed the impact of technology on society over the next 50 years.

Dr George Cairns, UK, spoke about the strategic management change and preparing for critical uncertainties.

Professor Grimshaw, UK, explored the implications growth of networked organisations of the workplace and FM, whilst Robert Henderson conducted an interactive section on networking.

Paul McDevitt, USA , examined what factors have led many firms to change from competing for prime office and labour forces throughout the US to divest that same space and labour force to elsewhere in the world.

Professor Matthew Bacon, UK, provided an insight into free information flow, between disparate systems and processes, organisations and people.

Of great interest to Cetec was the keynote address by Dr Jacqueline Vischer, Canada, who gave a psychologists overview of understanding comfort, productivity and workplace occupancy.

Campbell Pfieffer, Facilities Manager, conducted a role play , which highlighted the importance of indoor ecology.
Dr Vyt Garnys spoke predominantly on the value that productivity gains would bring to an organisation if they optimised the performance of their facility. Examples were given , where savings of several million dollars per year were able to be achieved.
Andrew Walker-Morison, Researcher, outlined the importance of choosing the correct materials.
Belinda Tsering, Architect , showed how to apply the processes. John Walter, facilities manager, played the role of client.

Other speakers spoke about strategic security, private finance initiatives, sustainable offices, managing workplace infrastructure, the future direction of workscapes and communities, correctional systems, sustainability of commercial fitouts, contracts, the FM helpdesk 2010, and the sustainable workplace.

The information rich program, as usual, was supported by a wonderful networking social program within the environment that only Brisbane can offer.
