Dr Vyt Garnys, Managing Director of Cetec, as a member of
The Indoor Ecology Community Of Practice for the Facilities Management
Association of Australia, contributed to the keynote address at the
Ideaction 2004, FMA conference , 12-14 May 2004 in Brisbane.
Steve Gladwin, the National Chair, indicated that the theme
aimed to challenge the role of the FM profession in shaping the future
community in a corporate global context.
Dr Jack Bacon, USA. reviewed the impact of technology on
society over the next 50 years.
Dr George Cairns, UK, spoke about the strategic management
change and preparing for critical uncertainties.
Professor Grimshaw, UK, explored the implications growth of
networked organisations of the workplace and FM, whilst Robert
Henderson conducted an interactive section on networking.
Paul McDevitt, USA , examined what factors have led many
firms to change from competing for prime office and labour forces
throughout the US to divest that same space and labour force to
elsewhere in the world.
Professor Matthew Bacon, UK, provided an insight into free
information flow, between disparate systems and processes,
organisations and people.
Of great interest to Cetec was the keynote address by Dr
Jacqueline Vischer, Canada, who gave a psychologists
overview of understanding comfort, productivity and workplace
occupancy.
Campbell Pfieffer, Facilities Manager, conducted a role play
, which highlighted the importance of indoor ecology.
Dr Vyt Garnys spoke predominantly on the value that productivity
gains would bring to an organisation if they optimised the performance
of their facility. Examples were given , where savings of
several million dollars per year were able to be achieved.
Andrew Walker-Morison, Researcher, outlined the importance of
choosing the correct materials.
Belinda Tsering, Architect , showed how to apply the processes.
John Walter, facilities manager, played the role of client.
Other speakers spoke about strategic security, private finance
initiatives, sustainable offices, managing workplace infrastructure,
the future direction of workscapes and communities, correctional
systems, sustainability of commercial fitouts, contracts, the FM
helpdesk 2010, and the sustainable workplace.
The information rich program, as usual, was supported by a
wonderful networking social program within the environment that only
Brisbane can offer.
